A guest-blog written by Thomas Stelzer from Finder about why Session was selected as a finalist.
Session has been named as a finalist in the Digital Assets and Web3 category of the 2024 Finder Innovation Awards, setting a new standard in private messaging technology.
The Finder Innovation Awards look to honour brands and products that are pushing to improve the lives and experiences of Australians and Session is no exception.
At a time when private communication is of increasing importance, most of the leading messaging apps have introduced end-to-end encryption—but Session is pushing the boundaries of secure messaging.
On top of end-to-end encryption, it doesn’t require a phone number or any other personal information to sign up, and messages are onion-routed through a custom-built DePIN with over 2000 nodes. This protects user privacy by obscuring when, how often, and to whom a user is talking, and allows people to connect securely without having to trust a centralized entity.
Not only does this offer true decentralisation, it also increases reliability by ensuring there is no single point of failure. On top of that, it’s open source, meaning anyone can audit or contribute to its codebase.
Session also puts users in full control of their communications through its innovative and custom-built decentralised “disappearing messages” feature. This means users get to set their own time preferences for when messages are deleted from both their devices and the network, allowing them to share sensitive or personal information without the risk of it being compromised.
More than 1 million people are now using Session, with over 150,000 people downloading it in the last 30 days,, a clear sign of the cutthrough that Session has enjoyed, and proof of the innovation it is bringing to the private messaging space.
