TGE Timeline Delays: Balancing Technical Readiness with Partnerships
February 5 - March 20, 2025 was previously announced as the target window for TGE. While Session contributors successfully achieved technical readiness during this period (completing hardfork preparations, migrations, and delivering a stable Staking Portal), there was an underestimation of the time required to finalize critical launch partnerships. This has understandably caused frustration and disappointment for many community members.
Here’s a breakdown of the contributing factors:
Partnership Timing: Although discussions with potential partners began well before June 2024, these conversations typically accelerate only when a project demonstrates technical readiness for TGE.
External Schedules: Launch partners, who work with numerous projects simultaneously, operate on their own timelines that rarely align perfectly with the desired TGE date
Market Sensitivity: These partners are highly responsive to market conditions and face internal challenges that can affect their project onboarding processes.
Complex Negotiations: Finalizing partnerships involves detailed business negotiations and legal/regulatory processes that add unpredictable timeframes.
These factors created "unknown unknowns" in partnership development similar to those faced during technical preparations. While delays are disappointing in the short term, getting these partnerships right is essential to ensure long-term success for the Session ecosystem. Launching without supportive partnerships would risk undermining all the progress made thus far.
Session contributors appreciate the community's continued patience and support as they work to deliver a TGE that meets the standards the Session community deserves.
Mark Your Calendars: Key Hardfork Dates 👀
The TGE date will be announced when there is complete certainty on the timing (with at least 1 weeks’ notice).
In the meantime, the dates for the migration from Oxen Network to the new Session Network can now be confirmed!
Oxen Service Node Operator or Contributor should make note of the following dates:
- Anchor Hardfork mandatory upgrade: Releasing on April 22, 2025
- Anchor Hardfork activation: Taking place on April 29, 2025. Important note: After this date, new nodes cannot be registered on the Oxen Service Node Network
- Landing Hardfork mandatory upgrade: Releasing on May 6, 2025
The date of the Landing Hardfork activation, which coincides with TGE, will be announced following the successful completion of the Anchor Hardfork and further development of launch partnerships.
Because new nodes cannot be registered to the Oxen Service Node Network after the Anchor Hardfork, TGE and the Landing Hardfork activation are planned to take place within a few weeks of the Anchor Hardfork to ensure the stability of the network.
Points Adjustment: Oxen Service Node Bonus program
Oxen community members were recently asked to share their feedback on a potential reduction of daily points per full node for the Oxen Service Node Bonus program from 600 to 400.
While feedback was mixed, sentiment was generally more in favour of proceeding with the point reduction to ameliorate the potential dilution of points for earlier participants in the program. This reduction will be actioned shortly.
Next Steps for Oxen Community Members
Oxen community members are warmly encouraged to share their questions regarding the migration in the new #oxen-migration Discord channel. To be notified in Discord about important updates regarding the migration, please pick up an Oxen Service Node Operator or Contributor role in the #get-alerts channel on Discord.
$OXEN holders can also pick up a role in this channel to be notified about the Oxen Coin Claims program and the OXEN>SESH and wOXEN>SESH bridges that will be opening at TGE.
Stay tuned for more updates as the launch of Session Token unfolds. Onward!
