With a successful migration to the new Session Network now completed, Session continues to evolve as a decentralized communication platform, with significant developments planned for the second half of 2025.

This roadmap update covers the immediate introduction of a Session Network page that will give users visibility into the decentralized infrastructure behind their communications, the upcoming integration of Lokinet by the end of Q3 to significantly improve message delivery performance, and the beta launch of Session Pro in early Q4 with enhanced functionality and SESH token integration. These developments aim to connect Session's users with the underlying token ecosystem while significantly expanding the platform's capabilities.

The Session Network Page: Introducing Session’s users to SESH and Staking

This week, a new page will be added to Session’s settings menu on iOS and Android (Desktop coming soon). The Session Network page will, for the first time, expose Session users to the underlying network that powers their secure communications. As you’ve probably experienced yourselves when trying to onboard friends to crypto, people can be sceptical at first (and for good reason!). Rather than overwhelming users with crypto-heavy information, this page is designed to focus on the decentralized infrastructure that powers Session and makes this app unique and secure.

Together with information about a user’s swarm and activity on the network, the page also displays current Session Token (SESH) price information and shows the total amount of SESH staked across the network, giving users insight into the scale and importance of community participation in securing their communications. Users will learn how SESH provides security and incentives for network nodes, and will also be directed to Session’s documentation to learn more about the network and staking. This page will continue to evolve as the SESH ecosystem and utility develops, and as Session contributors learn more about what inspires users to dive into SESH.

Session Pro Beta: Launch Timeline and Features

A beta version of Pro will be released first as an MVP, with an initial set of core features designed to assess user satisfaction, conversion, and pricing for the overall Pro experience. The Session Pro Beta is planned to be priced at a discount compared with future versions of Session Pro. This will allow users to purchase access to Pro early and, depending on how long they unlock access for, potentially access future editions of Pro with more features for the same discounted price. The exact pricing and discounting model will be confirmed closer to the Pro Beta launch.

While features and implementation are still being scoped, the first version of Session Pro Beta is currently planned to be released in early Q4 2025. Please stay tuned for more precise timelines to be announced.

The initial feature set for Session Pro Beta is yet to be announced, but will be focused on additional convenience features for users, allowing them to better organize their messages on Session, exceed limits placed on free users and offer more opportunities to customize how they appear to other users in the app.

Session Pro: Payments Infrastructure

As you might already know, it is planned to allow users to unlock Pro either directly with SESH, or with their fiat currency of choice, swapped to SESH via third party providers.

Session Pro Beta will most likely launch with in-app purchases first. This means that Session users will be able to make fiat payments using Apple and Google Play’s established payment infrastructure, enabling easy onboarding for non-crypto-native users from the very first version of Pro. These fiat payments will be converted to SESH on the backend via third-party conversion services in order to pay Session Network Fees. These are paid using SESH, which is burned and re-minted into the Staking Reward Pool, adding to rewards for node operators and contributors.

App store policies for out-of-app payments (i.e. payments made via a webpage outside of a mobile app) and cryptocurrency payments are currently in a state of flux and regulators are pushing for fairer app store payment rules for developers from an antitrust perspective and a crypto regulatory perspective. Session’s contributors are currently navigating this landscape as it relates to offering direct purchases with SESH and other cryptocurrencies for the full version of Session Pro.

Lokinet: Upgrading Session’s networking layer and Session Pro

Lokinet, an onion-router that lets you access the internet anonymously, has been undergoing refactoring for an extended period to allow it to be integrated into Session, when integrated Lokinet will massively decrease the time to send and receive messages and files in Session. The refactored version of Lokinet is planned to be integrated with Session by the end of Q3, 2025, first launching on iOS, followed by Android and Desktop.

Lokinet also makes certain highly-requested features for Session Pro viable. These potential features include increased file sizes for message attachments, and on a longer time horizon, onion-routed voice and video calls. Due to their high technical lift and complexity, these features will take longer to build. As a result, it is currently likely that complex features relying on Lokinet will be included in the full Pro version rather than the initial beta version. The timeline for the full version of Session Pro is still being assessed, so stay tuned for further updates.

Building Session’s Future

Session's roadmap for the remainder of 2025 represents a pivotal period for platform development and ecosystem growth. From bringing Session users closer to the network that powers their conversations, to launching Session Pro and upgrading its infrastructure with Lokinet, every step taken is aimed at building a more private, secure, and user driven communications platform.
